From the President
The scorching summer has come to a close. This past season we witnessed more natural disasters around the world than any other summer. This causes us to reflect on the cost of our development and as to how much environmental destruction we have caused in pursuit of a better quality of life. We must remind ourselves that the laws of nature, the sun and the wind, bring us fruit, and that humanity is but a part of the natural world. With this is in mind, I wish all Keimyung family members peace and happiness in this rich harvest season.
I have good news to share with you! The Ministry of Education and the Korean Educational Development Institute selected Keimyung University as a recipient of government support after their third university basic competence assessment this year. Keimyung University was rated ‘excellent’ in all respects including development plans and educational environment (ratio of full-time faculty) and is receiving 22 billion won in funding for University Innovation Support Project over the next three years beginning in 2022. I am very proud of and deeply grateful to all the Keimyung family members who worked so hard to make this happen. I hope that you will continue to work with passion and a sense of responsibility to lead innovation in education.
I would like to commend the Keimyung members who spent their time valuably while enduring the hot weather during the vacation season: the Department of Pharmaceutics published articles in prestigious international journals, the Office of Social Innovation Support led an outreach program for the local community, Keimyung faculty and students participated in volunteer activities, members of our university won a series of global projects sponsored by the government, and students from the Department of Industrial Design won first place in a competitive nationwide competition. This illustrates how the Keimyung family continues to be a pioneering spirit in the world, creating new value despite challenges of every kind. I would like to extend my deep appreciation and admiration to you all for harboring and realizing Keimyung’s philosophy.
We also have generous hearts who deserve our compliments: numerous people have made donations for students in need. As a token of appreciation, Keimyung University now offers the “Keimyung Plus” matching grant. Individual donations will now be matched with scholarships by Keimyung University. This program is scheduled to begin, full swing, starting this semester. It was established with belief in creating positive influence and is, therefore, expected to further promote the culture of donation. Your active participation in this program and spreading word about it will be very much appreciated.
This semester, ten new professors are joining nine departments. We believe that inviting great minds will surely enhance the academic and educational capabilities of the school. By continuing to attract and recruit outstanding scholars, we are laying the foundation for a bright future for our school.
By the time the new semester begins, we would be very seriously engaged in the recruitment of freshmen for the next academic year. The talent that we recruit now will lead Keimyung’s future. Your support in our effort for recruit these talents is greatly appreciated. I also hope you will actively participate in our preparation for the upcoming university accreditation so that we can be as successful as we were in the previous university basic competence assessment.
I hope you enjoy this season by thanking each other and sharing the fruits of the harvest. And most of all, I wish you good health amid the COVID-19 situation.
