The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice have enhanced the degree of universities' internationalization capabilities through the International Education Quality Assurance System. This initiative is in response to addressing undocumented students as potential illegal aliens, and provide 'certification' to universities with high internationalization capabilities.
As a university awarded the 'Excellent Certification' by the Ministry of Education, students enrolling at Keimyung University can undergo easier visa screening procedures, gain access to a wider range of visa issuance methods, and may be eligible for benefits when selecting a university for the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program. The maintenance period extends until February 2025.
Keimyung University received excellent ratings by consistently managing evaluation indicators such as the rates of illegal aliens, dropouts, education completion, and official language abilities of international students from a mid- to long-term perspective. Particularly, the university was highly praised for establishing Korean language training centers around the world, alongside the deployment of Korean instructors. Additionally, the university engages international graduate students in staffing the International Help Desk and orchestrates local cultural exchange endeavors for the student populace.
Keimyung University currently enrolls 2,432 international students, with 1,564 in degree programs and 868 in non-degree programs, representing over 70 countries. The university supports these students through initiatives such as a student council and programs focused on employment education, job fairs, and job camps, aiming to ease their transition into Korean academia and enhance their employability post-graduation.
Kim Seon-jung, Vice President for International Affairs, emphasized, 'True internationalization occurs when foreigners and Koreans form a familial bond, and foreigners feel at home.' She added, 'We are committed to transforming into a genuinely international university by establishing a supportive system and environment, enabling international students to concentrate on education, research, and study, feeling as comfortable as they would in their home country.’
